Neonatal Repatriation Project
A regional project to support the enhancement of the repatriation process for families and units across the region. Find out more about the project and how you can get involved below.
Making repatriation calmer for families and smoother for services
We’re working across all 12 neonatal units in the network, SoNAR and parent partners to make repatriation (moves back closer to home) more predictable, compassionate and consistent—while protecting tertiary capacity for babies who need it most. This work aligns with the BAPM Repatriation Framework (2023) and learning from Thames Valley & Wessex Neonatal Network.
Why this matters
Parents tell us repatriation can feel sudden, confusing and emotionally tough - especially with short notice, changes in practice between units, and limited information about what to expect. Staff echo this, citing unpredictable timing, heavy paperwork, and variable handover as key pressures. We want to fix that together, with a trauma-informed, family-centred approach (co-designed with the Parent Advisory Group).
