Introduction to Coaching in the Perinatal Environment
A one-day, face-to-face workshop offering an engaging introduction to the principles and practice of coaching within perinatal care. Various dates and locations throughout the region available.
Palliative Care Study Days - Various Dates
The South West Neonatal Network are delighted to be collaborating with Children’s Hospice South West to run 2 neonatal palliative care study days.
This free in person study day is being delivered at:
Little Harbour Children’s Hospice in St Austell on April 20th
Charlton Farm Children’s Hospice outside Bristol on April 27th
The same programme will be delivered on both days but in 2 different locations to enable staff to attend.
The day is aimed at Band 5 & 6 nurses with an interest in palliative care, but is also open to other staff who would like to enhance their knowledge of this area of neonatal care to support with care delivery in their service.
The programme will include a tour of the hospice and sessions on:
Sensitive communication
Uncertainty and parallel planning, including advance care planning
Symptom Management
Memory making & sibling support
As places are limited on each day, we suggest up to 4 from each NICU, 3 from each LNU and 2 from each SCU & SoNAR. Any remaining places will be allocated as fairly as possible.
Join us for a day of engaging speakers and shared learning.
Please ensure you answer all booking questions including dietary requirements. Lunch is kindly being provided.
Community Study Day
Free study day open to all staff with an interest in discharge preparation and neonatal community outreach services.
Including a range of presentations from South West neonatal staff with a focus this year on recognising and supporting the deteriorating infant in the home. Sessions will include:
How the use of virtual ward can support outreach services
Supporting parents to identify red flags for when to seek extra help
Supporting parents following discharge home and potential readmissions, using a trauma informed approach

Airway Skills Study Day
Following the success of the Airway Study Day training earlier this year, we are delighted to be running a further 2 dates on 30th April and 1st May 2026. This will take place at the Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building in Exeter.
Training is open to Consultants, SAS Doctors and ANNPs, in order to support units to clearly evidence implementation of the BAPM framework at this level.

Join us for a two day nursing event focusing on developing wellbeing and emotional containment skills and strategies in the context of neonatal care. With strong focus on psychologically informed leadership to support team working based on the Hobfall Principles.

Join us for our Spring Education Forum bringing together neonatal professionals from across the region for a day of shared learning, group workshops and engaging topics of discussion.
The day will include learning from mortality reviews in line with the new regional mortality learning process.

Airway Skills Study Day
FULLY BOOKED
Following publication of the BAPM Neonatal Airway Safety Standard, the network is running Airway Skills Training Days on 30th and 31st January 2025 at the Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building in Exeter.
This first cohort is open to Consultants, SAS Doctors and ANNPs, in order to support units to clearly evidence implementation of the BAPM framework at this level. If successful we will explore repeated delivery and a widened audience.
Introduction to Palliative Care (available throughout the year)
Collaboration to enhance support for families and healthcare professionals
This 2-hour Introduction to Neonatal Palliative Care is open to all health care professionals working with families in their perinatal journey. The aim of this is to ensure that babies and their families receive the best possible care at the most challenging time of their lives. The session is made up of bite sized presentations from a variety of parent and health care professional speakers with time for questions and discussion throughout. The same programme is offered each time to enable all staff the chance to attend this training.
The training is endorsed by the NNA, Together for Short Lives, Bliss and BAPM.

Neonatal Health Professionals Conference 2024
We are very excited to welcome you to the South West Neonatal Health Professional's Conference 2024, being held at Cadbury House Hotel in North Somerset on 2nd and 3rd May.
These two days are packed with local and national expert speakers on a wide range of topics regarding neonatal care, with a naturally emerging theme around compassionate leadership. It will provide a great opportunity to pull everyone together within our region to celebrate learning and innovation across neonatal services. There will also be the opportunity for networking and fun with colleagues during dinner and entertainment on the evening of the 2nd.
