  • How to reach the hospital by car

    Signposts to the hospital are provided on most of the main routes into Barnstaple.  The entrance to the car park is clearly signposted.

  • Nearest Car Park

    The public car park at NDDH is located at Car Park A on the left as you enter the main hospital site.

    The car park has 285 Parking and 11 Disabled spaces, with an additional 10 disabled spaces outside the main entrance.  

    There are an additional 3 disabled bays outside Orthopaedics, 2 outside Ladywell Unit and 2 outside DBU.

  • Car Parking Charges

    If your baby is admitted to the SCU, parents are able to park in the main car park free of charge. This will be discussed with you on admission to the unit.

    A Pay on Foot system is operated at Car Park A and patients and visitors will collect a barrier ticket on entry and pay at the machine to recieve an exit ticket. The payment machines are located at the main entrance to the hospital, at the centre of the car park and by the ramp. Once payment has been made please note that there is a 15 minute grace period in which to return to your vehicle and exit the car park.

    The discount ‘season’ tickets for 5 days or more available from the Sodexho Helpdesk on Level 2 at North Devon District Hospital.

    Disabled drivers who hold a blue badge can park free of charge in the bays clearly marked.

  • Nearest Bus Stop

    There is a bus service that operates from Barnstaple Bus Station to the hospital, linking up with other routes. Time table advice can be found in the small kitchen area.

    Stagecoach buses from Holsworthy, Bideford, Ilfracombe, South Molton and Torrington run to the hospital. Call Traveline on 0871 200 2233 or visit for bus times.

  • Nearest Railway Station

    Barnstaple Railway Station is about 3 miles from the Hospital.  Stagecoach buses run from the Station to the Hospital.

  • General Amenities

    The Shop sells  newspapers, magazines, drinks, snacks, flowers, cards, stamps and some toiletries. It is located Level 2 (main foyer)

    Pharmacy: The pharmacy dispensary is open: Monday to Friday – 08:30 to 17:30,  Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays – 09:30 to 12:30 Tel: 01271 322 395

    Cashpoint: No cashpoint on site however cash back is available in the restaurant  when purchasing meals.

    Post box: There is a post box in the main foyer. Stamps are available from the shop in the main foyer.

  • Catering and Refreshment Facilities

    Raleigh Gallery Restaurant: is located on Level 0 at the Hospital.  It is open Monday – Friday from 8.00 to 2.30.

    Aspretto Cafe: is located on Level 2 (main foyer) for hot and cold snacks. It is open Monday to Friday 8.00 – 19.00 and Saturdays & Sundays 10.00 – 19.00.

    Meal vouchers: Parents and family can purchase hot meal vouchers (available 24 hours a day) from the vending machine which can then be handed to a nurse, who will prepare your meal.

    Snack trolley: comes onto each ward every morning and afternoon with a selection of soft drinks, sandwiches, crisps, fruit and other snacks for purchase.

    Vending facilities: There are food and drink vending machines located on Level 1 of the Ladywell Unit. There is a hot drink and vending machine in the Ladywell Unit Reception.

  • Religious and Spiritual Support

    The Chaplaincy Department provides spiritual and pastoral care and support for patients, visitors and staff particularly at times of personal stress or trauma. Although Christian in its staffing and services, the Chaplaincy provides spiritual support for people of all faiths or none. There is a small chapel located on level 1 at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH), which is open at all times. There is also a small prayer room for use by any religious group and a quiet room which opens directly into the main chapel. From the chapel you can access a courtyard garden which is open to all to use as a quiet space. The chapel is fully accessible, but there is a step down into the garden. There is no service in the chapel on a Sunday, but the chaplain can visit the unit and will share Holy Communion or a simple time of prayer with those who have requested this. If you would like for your baby to be christened whilst on the unit please speak to your nurse as this can be arranged.

  • Parent and Family Liaison Services

    PALS provide a service to help patients and public find their way around the NHS and help them deal with any problems they might encounter. They are located on Level 2 in the Information Centre. Leaflets are provided throughout the hospital with information.  Opening times: Monday to Friday 09.30 - 16.30

    Foreign language and BSL interpreter: A nurse will be able to arrange interpreting and translation services via the hospital switchboard.
