I joined Exeter Neonatal Unit straight from qualifying as a children’s nurse in 2008, knowing a career within neonatal care was the career for me. In 2013, I progressed to the position of Neonatal Sister where I took on a more formal role within the neurodevelopmental and family care team. I took the lead on the Bliss Baby Charter process, securing accreditation in early 2019. I have undertaken FINE level 1, 2 and 3 training where most recently I embarked on the task of introducing ‘Parent Led Ward Rounds’ as the focus of my Quality Improvement (QI) project. This helped me to understand just how important the parental voice is within neonatal care.

I have a particular passion for preventing family separation through skin-to-skin kangaroo care and the promotion of parent-infant closeness. I value the delivery of quality evidence-based neurodevelopmental care with parents at the heart of delivering it; striving towards a world where parents are seen as true partners in their baby’s care, ‘it is their baby after all!’

I am very much looking forward to joining the South West Neonatal Network team as a Care Coordinator and being a part of shaping this new developing role.
