I started at the SW Neonatal ODN in May 2022 and have been a Speech and Language Therapist in the South West for over 30 years. I graduated from Trinity College in Dublin and moved to the UK and took my first post in Bristol. I have worked in Bristol and Bath in Special Schools, at a Head Injury Unit and in research before discovering my special interest in Neonatology and pre-school children with complex needs.
I was based in the at the RUH in Bath for over 19 years and during this time, I developed the Speech & Language Therapy service to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and was a part of the multi-disciplinary team providing early intervention. I was also the team lead for the Pre-school Complex Needs Speech and Language Therapy team and worked on many projects promoting communication development in early years settings.
I moved to Bristol Children’s Hospital and St Michaels Hospital in 2019 and I am currently leading the development of the Speech and Language service at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in St Michaels. I am part of the National Neonatal SLT CEN (Clinical Excellence Network). I am also a Trustee of a local children’s charity in Bath. I have a specific area of interest in enabling families to access early intervention for babies and young children who need additional support with feeding and communication.
I am excited to be part of the SW Neonatal ODN and am looking forward to helping local Speech and Language Therapists to develop Neonatal Speech and Language Therapy services in their local area and supporting families to get equal access to quality Speech and Language Therapy provision throughout the region.
