I qualified as a paediatric nurse in 1996 and worked as a staff nurse in general paediatrics in Buckinghamshire for the first few years of my career.  In 1998 I moved to Plymouth and into the speciality of neonates and have worked at Derriford NICU since that time.  I have undertaken a senior nurse and educational role within my local unit (Derriford) for the past 15 years. In 2004 I commenced the role of module leader for the neonatal ‘Qualified in Speciality’ training in the South West Peninsula and developed the current course in partnership with The University of Plymouth. In 2007 I completed an MSc in healthcare and Education and have subsequently developed and managed a wide variety of educational and training programmes for the Plymouth Neonatal Unit. I am an active instructor for the Resuscitation Council UK in both Newborn Life Support, and The Generic Instructor Course.

In more recent years, myself and my colleague Diane Keeling have developed an integrated  Enhanced and Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner MSc Pathway which we run in partnership with University of Plymouth. This provides accessible and flexible training for enhanced and advanced nurses within our neonatal network supporting the delivery of the neonatal service.

In 2019 I became the Lead Nurse Educator for the South West ODN and have thoroughly enjoyed working across our network to support the highest quality education for our neonatal nursing workforce.
