Religious and Spiritual Support

There is a small chapel located on level 1 at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH), which is open at all times. There is also a small prayer room for use by any religious group and a quiet room which opens directly into the main chapel. From the chapel you can access a courtyard garden which is open to all to use as a quiet space. The chapel is fully accessible, but there is a step down into the garden.

Volunteers are available during the week and chaplains are available in the hospital usually from 08.00 to 16.00 weekdays and on Sunday mornings. They are trained in pastoral care and offer confidential support. You don’t have to be religious to ask for support from them.

All of the chaplain’s work part time, so there are some occasions when there might be no one available.

There is no service in the chapel on a Sunday, but the chaplain can visit the unit and will share Holy Communion or a simple time of prayer with those who have requested this.

If you would like for your baby to be christened whilst on the unit please speak to your nurse as this can be arranged.

Please ask your nurse if you would like to see somebody.
